Steven McLaughlin is a graduate of the University of Toledo, College of Law. While in law school, McLaughlin participated in an internship with the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s office. During his time in Lenawee County, he tried and won multiple jury trials. Since graduation, McLaughlin has spent twenty-eight years prosecuting case throughout Southwest Michigan. He has been practicing criminal law in the State of Michigan since 1996. Mclaughlin is a member in good standing in the Michigan Bar, the New York Bar, and the Western District of Michigan (Federal).

OVERVIEW

McLaughlin has extensive experience in criminal law. He’s handled everything from traffic infractions to homicides. Throughout his career, McLaughlin has specialized in the areas of domestic violence and criminal sexual conduct. He spent nine years prosecuting drug and gun crimes with the Southwest Enforcement Team. Most recently, he specialized in violent crimes and homicides as one of the founding members of the Kalamazoo County Violent Crimes Unit.

McLaughlin has lectured for the Prosecuting Attorneys Association (PAAM), the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET), and the Michigan State Police. He also authored chapters on discovery and cross-examination of expert witnesses for the PAAM drunk driving manuel.

McLaughlin retired from prosecution to join Hills Law. He brings his vast experience and a unique insight into the criminal justice system to help those accused of crimes.

Steve also enjoys of love of sports. When not advocating for his clients, you’ll likely to find him on the pitch teaching a group of local players the “beautiful game.”
